Jon D. Schwartz
Partner [email protected]A native Philadelphian, Jon D. Schwartz originally moved to Florida to study music at the University of Miami. He first discovered his interest in personal injury law and criminal defense while interning at a law firm. It was then that he decided that he wanted to help injured parties obtain compensation and justice. He earned his law degree at the University of Miami – School of Law. Mr. Schwartz has worked in large and small law firms. He is an excellent negotiator for his clients and does everything he can to ensure that they receive the most financial recovery for their personal injuries. Mr. Schwartz makes it a point to always be available to talk to clients and directly handles all personal injury cases at Troy & Schwartz. He has served as the President of the Business Network International of their local chapter in Miami. When he is not serving his clients, Mr. Schwartz enjoys spending time with his two young boys, practicing music, and playing sports. He is fluent in Spanish.
Susan Dierenfeldt-Troy
Partner [email protected]Susan Dierenfeldt-Troy handles the business law and intellectual property law practice areas for the firm. She is a magna cum laude graduate of St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami Lakes, Florida and a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
Her pre-law career included both academic research and new product development as an R&D manager in the medical device industry. She is the author of several peer-reviewed medical journal papers. Her broad-based background allows her to communicate with a wide variety of individuals from “large corporation” officers to “just-getting started” entrepreneurs. As someone who has actually developed new, complex products from concept through market release, she has the ability to understand the typical issues which confront most new product or new service developers. These issues can range from technical/manufacturing issues to regulatory issues.
Susan is also actively involved in the local community. She teaches the following two courses through Miami-Dade College’s Continuing Education Program: “Legal Aspects of Starting a New Business,” and “Understanding Patents, Copyrights, and Trademarks.” She has developed all of the course materials for both courses. The materials are updated prior to each course to reflect changes in the law. She is also Volunteer Venture Coach through the University of Miami’s Launch Pad and a member of local networking groups.
In Memoriam
William James Troy
1931-2012 William J. Troy, a native of New York City, co-founded Troy and Schwartz, LLC with his partner, Jon D. Schwartz, in the early 1990s. He passed away on October 19, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. William was a graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School. Throughout his legal career from representing enlisted Navy men as a defense attorney and officer with the U.S. Navy to representing personal injury clients at Troy & Schwartz, Mr. Troy was committed to serving his clients. He was an author, history and political buff, fluent in French, a loving husband, and the proud father of two grown children and two grandchildren. The partners and staff at Troy and Schwartz are dedicated to honoring his legacy by following his CREED approach to the practice of law: Conscientious, Rigorous, Empathic, Energetic, and Diligent legal representation.
